Continuing the brainwashing

When they say television is bad for babies, surely they don’t mean MotoGP.

Still a little short to reach the footpegs…oh, the baby, too.

There hasn’t been much riding lately as I’ve had about fifteen million chores to do and then we were in Colorado two weeks ago.  We did a lot of horseback riding on dirt roads that made me wish that I had the XT225. 🙂

I’m going riding tomorrow, though, so there will be a ride report forthcoming!  (I guess that means I should figure out where I’m going…)

Watsonville and the coast

One of the best parts about having a blog is that it lets me be totally lazy when coming up with ride ideas.  I had no clue where I wanted to go yesterday, so I poked around on my own site and came up with this Wind Dancers ride from 2007.   I modified it a bit since I no longer live down near San Jose; I took out the Gilroy loop (reluctantly) and added a return trip via the coast.

I like Shannon Road in Los Gatos a lot; I would have never found it on my own and it’s a perfect way to get over to the New Almaden area.

Holy big turbines

The downside to riding a motorcycle in the Bay Area in the summertime is that the coast is cold and misty and the East Bay is the surface temperature of the sun.  In fact, I think the place with the absolute best riding temperature in late July is my driveway.  Sigh.  I definitely prefer roasting alive to foggy and misty, though, so I headed east again this morning.

There was some sort of huge backup on the Dumbarton because of a closed lane.   I’m assuming it’s due to the major seismic retrofitting going on, though the westbound lanes are supposed to reopen by 5am on weekdays.  I’m glad I wasn’t stuck in that traffic.

Sunol Water Temple

In an attempt not to go completely mad, I’ve arranged to have a few hours on Tuesdays to myself to do with what I want.  Last week I was super exciting and went to the post office! And the grocery store!  And used BOTH MY ARMS in both places!

Anyway, yesterday I had no errands to run (this is a lie; I just didn’t feel like doing them) so I went for a short ride.  🙂  As usual, my direction of travel was dictated by the weather; west and north were cold/rainy and so I pointed east.

I hadn’t been to the Sunol Railroad Cafe in years; it changed ownership about 2 years ago and the new owner, Mark, is really nice.  Most of the people who came and went while I was there were locals that he knew by name and greeted enthusiastically.  One patron, Tom, was a fellow motorcyclist and we chatted for a few minutes about my Ninjette and his Harley.  His eyes lit up when he talked about riding; it was clear that it gave him a great amount of joy.  I absolutely adore bumping into people like that.

I’m a Red Hot Chili Pucker!

After camping last weekend, the Red Hot Chili Puckers were kind enough to let me sub into their game so that I could do a mid-season evaluation for NCWHL.  I must have done OK because they agreed that I could join their team for the remainder of the season.  🙂

I’m super excited because I know a lot of people on the team, including April and Andrea. It was great luck that their team was next in line to get an extra player!

April wasn’t feeling well on Sunday, so she didn’t play.  The upside was that meant she took some photos.  🙂
