California - Wisconsin and backWorthington, MN - Mundelein, IL Today was all about pounding out the miles to get to Yosh and Allen's, near Chicago. To stay sane, I pulled off of I-90 whenever any sort of cheesy tourist attraction showed itself; hence my visits to the Jolly Green Giant statue in Blue Earth, MN and the Spam Museum in Austin.
The Spam Museum was actually quite a find. It's free, so I figured I'd wander around it for a while. It's...well, it's very intricate. I wandered around with an incredulous grin, trying to figure out whether the museum was truly this serious about Spam, or whether it was completely tongue in cheek. One docent seemed disproportionately enthusiastic about taking my picture with Spammy in the lobby. Partway through the museum, I met Norm, a docent in his 70s who took my picture in the Spam assembly line. He was incredibly friendly and cheerful, and told me about his kids. Later, Norm would convince another docent to chase me into the gift shop so that I could try a sample of their new honey and turkey flavored Spam.
I finally crossed into Wisconsin today, only to cross back out and into Illinois. I arrived at Yosh and Allen's around 6:30pm, where Yosh and their daughter were eagerly waiting for me in the driveway.
491 miles today; 2608 miles total.
