August 4, 2001

there's a first for everything.
I'm bailing on a ride tomorrow. It's true. Paul and the gang are riding up into the foothills and then heading to his house for a BBQ -- while I'm going to try to get to the BBQ if nothing else, I'm not terribly certain I'll be getting up for the ride. My stomach's a little shaky, and besides which, I've had to get up early for something every day for the last month or so, and my body's finally saying "enough, already!". Despite being a general morning person, I'm crashing in a big way.

Also, and don't tell anyone, but I'm really looking forward to a weekend day where I'm not tied to anything bike-related. I might end up doing my oil change and washing the bike, but it's not like "I will spend all day tomorrow doing my 4000 mile service!" or "I will spend all day tomorrow riding!" I think that it's just more of a need to have a day not planned out than anything to do with motorcycling per se, but most of my plans lately (on the weekends, at least) have been bike-related. Which is good. But dammit, I'm tired. :)

bluepoof goes multimedia.
The reason I got up early today, actually, was more or less bike-related -- I had an audition to be in a movie about two rival woman biker gangs in a Tank Girl-esque future world. Even though I have zero acting experience whatsoever, I think the audition went fairly well. I read the role of Crash, the best friend and sidekick of the lead character. She's an interesting character -- she has some motivations that I'm not sure I completely understood during the half hour reading, but, OK, it's a fictional tough-as-nails futuristic biker babe. I could do that. ;) Anyway, I'm hoping to at least be an extra in the movie, since it would just be fun. I'll keep y'all posted.

One other thing on my agenda is the 2001 Bay Area Women's and Gurls' Skill Share Conference, in San Francisco, in mid-September. Cat and I are going to do a workshop on motorcycle mechanics, and hopefully she'll talk a little bit about her recent racing experiences, too. It's more of a "girls can do anything!" type of conference, rather than a "learn these specific skill sets" thing, so the workshop should be fun and we have a lot of leeway in what we talk about and present. So, if you're in the Bay Area (and especially if you, in true San Francisco terminology, "identify as female"), check out the conference web page, and come see our workshop! :)

zzzzzzz.
I want to talk about Peter and my recent trip to Calistoga, but I'm so tired that I'm practically falling over. I'm getting old. I can't go out clubbing and then get up early in the morning anymore. The glory days are over. ;) Anyway, I'll try to write about that sometime within the next few days.

In the meantime, a big ol' congrats to Lusty, who's all, like, riding her bigass 2000 Suzuki Intruder 800 to work and stuff already. Yay short dyed-hair biker babe Bay Area computer nerds! *happysigh*
