updates.
So, I've started driving the bike to work. Yay! What this has meant so
far is that I wake up, drive my car to Peter's, leave the car there, get
the bike, and ride the bike the rest of the way (about 4 miles) to work.
There are two (obvious) ways to get to work from Peter's: a heavily-trafficked
divided highway to a heavily-trafficked main street, or a moderately-trafficked
street to the heavily-trafficked main street. I take the latter, just
because it's more relaxing in the morning to not have to worry about
as many cars.
It's actually pretty encouraging. Yesterday, my bike stalled for a moment at a light, and the dude in the Big Ass Truck behind me did not, as previously feared, plow over me anyways. He patiently waited for me to get the bike going again, and when I waved a "thank you" at him, he waved back. So that was nice.
I forgot to write a separate entry about this, but last week, I skidded coming up to a yellow light, and locked up the rear wheel. Luckily, the light was still yellow when I skidded into the intersection, and I remembered enough from the MSF course (NOTE: TAKE THE MSF COURSE!!) to keep my foot on the brake through the skid. The bike stayed up, and I kept going without further ado. The other happy ending to this story is that I was in a similar situation over the weekend: I came up to a yellow light too slowly to zoom through it but too quickly to stop comfortably. This time, though, I remembered to apply the front brake more than the rear brake, and the bike stopped smoothly and didn't skid. So, I can learn. ;)
vanity.
I was at the mall last weekend, and I got a shiny silver cat sticker to
put on the back of the bike. :D
i think that's about it.
Nothing more to really report. Hopefully, I'll actually take my bike *home*
this weekend (I'd been postponing it because I have to go on some really
heavily-trafficked roads, and I wanted to wait until I had a bunch of free
time so I didn't feel rushed. Unfortunately, free time's been slow in
coming lately.). Then I can start commuting for real! ;)
