The bike from the front
The bike from the back/side
An amazingly bad picture of me on the bike
So the bike is obviously back from the mechanic's, and I am $200 poorer. But they said that it was in really good condition, and I guess it's worth it for the peace of mind. However, since I took my car to work yesterday, and then brought the bike to work after picking it up, I now have both vehicles at work (I didn't have my helmet yesterday, so Peter drove the bike to OpenGrid, and I just left it there last night). I have no idea what I'm going to do with it tonight. I had planned on leaving my car at work and taking the bike over to Peter's, but I don't know if that's a good idea, considering the streets between work and Peter's are really really busy and full of idiots who can't drive. I'm scared to drive my *car* on Stevens Creek Blvd. Anyways, so I guess I'll just leave the bike at work until Peter can drive it over to his or my place.
this would not be an issue if i wasn't a big wuss.
See, I really need to get over this fear of driving my bike on an actual
street. Anytime I want to move the bike from one location to another, I
have Peter drive it. This has both the desired effect of relocating the
bike with no fear of death on my part, and the undesired effect of making
me feel like a big wuss. I dunno. I'm just really scared of dropping
the bike in the middle of traffic (and consequentially getting hit from
behind by a non-observant driver). I guess I just have this mental
image of myself riding down the street, la la la, and suddenly, I do
something Horribly Wrong to the clutch and the whole bike just stops and
falls over. I'm not making this up! This is literally what I'm afraid of.
So, all of you with manual transmissions, email me and tell me that there's no way that this
can happen accidentally. At least now, I'm not afraid of driving a manual
transmission car, mainly because tipping it over is less of a concern.
Well, I'll practice more on the streets this weekend, and we'll see how it goes.
