legal bikes are happy bikes.
I braved the Redwood City DMV this morning, and transferred the Bandit's registration over to myself. Yay. That's about all that I have to say about that, really.

chains and sprockets and bolts, oh my!
I realized that parts of my last entry might have made no sense to people who haven't seen the SVS rear sprocket mounting drum (what Suzuki calls the hub. Don't ask me.). So I took these wonderful and fascinating pictures of the rear sprocket and hub.

Here is the top of the rear sprocket, which you can see is bolted to the hub. You may notice that one bolt is missing -- this is the crossthreaded one that's already been Dremeled off. See how much more sense this is making already?

The hub and sprocket from the side. You can see that the nut fits flush with the top of the sprocket, leaving no part of the bolt conveniently exposed for, say, a hacksaw.

Our fascinating photo tour continues with a fine shot of the underside of the hub. Here, you can tell that the bolt heads are inside the recessed part of the hub, and cannot be grabbed with pliers, sockets, or really anything else.

Now, fun live pictures of the remaining offending crossthreaded nut/bolt getting Dremeled off. I had to Dremel down from the top of the nut and just chop the damn thing in half. How 'bout that sexy dust mask, hey?

I like how the overhead lights reflected in the safety goggles make me look like an evil robot. Raarrr!

This one's even better.

The last of the munged bolts.
