obsession #1: alaska
  • The "get off the boat at Haines vs Skagway" pendulum is swinging back towards Haines.
  • Stephanie and I have been emailing about the Hotel Halsingland in Haines.
  • Haines has a Summer Solstice Celebration; "live dance music, food, and beer til midnight". OK!
obsession #2: arizona
The 2003 Women on Wheels Ride-In is July 7 - 9 in Prescott, AZ. Therefore, whereas 2004's trip theme is "utterly freezing", 2003's is "blazing hot deserts". Moderation, ha.

The current rough outline is: 2 days to Prescott, 3 days in Prescott for the rally, a day to/around the Grand Canyon, a day or two to/around Zion and Bryce Canyon Parks in Utah, meet Peter in Las Vegas for a few days, and then home.

  • Picked up two more maps from AAA today: "Western States/Provinces" and "Nevada/Utah".
  • After looking at the Utah map, decided to try for Bryce Canyon National Park if I was going to go to Zion anyway. I hadn't realized that they were so close.
  • May also try to putter around Dixie National Forest.
  • Talked with Cat about the possibility of coming home from Las Vegas via the LA area, and up the California coast. I'd still like to do Death Valley, but possibly not in mid-July.
