happy (belated) birthday, kim!
Yesterday was Kim's 30th birthday, but since I didn't update yesterday, she gets another birthday wish today. Thanks for being one of the best friends I've ever had, Kim, and for seeing me through the past five years with humor, clarity, laughter, and compassion.

only 3 1/2 months until my birthday!
Just in case anyone wanted to start saving up for my present now. Mmmmmmmm yummy.

the calendar gods hate me.
I just found out that a Sport-Touring.Net buddy has extra tickets for the Supercross race at Pac Bell park next weekend. Unfortunately, I'd already committed to going snowboarding that weekend. Feh! I officially have too many hobbies.

in antici........pation of the next SVS service.
The SVS has its 15,000 mile service coming up in 600 miles. I need new sparkplugs and, most likely, a new set of sprockets and a new chain. So, I figure I might as well do some research and modify the SVS's gearing a little bit if anyone can recommend a better set-up from stock (which is a 15-tooth front and 44-tooth rear).

Which is all well and good, trouble is, no one can seem to agree. I had thought that I'd decided on keeping the 15-tooth front sprocket size, and increasing to a 46-tooth rear sprocket (thereby increasing my acceleration but lowering top speed -- not a problem; like I've ever seen 130mph anyway), but now I'm reading a lot of posts to the SV board that people like their 16-tooth front sprockets. All very confusing. The problem is that everyone loves their particular sprocket switch: it increased fuel mileage, it made their teeth whiter, it cured their dutch elm disease.

I think I'm still leaning towards the 15/46, or 15/45. I don't want to increase the rear so much that it wheelies uncontrollably or anything (whee!), but a slightly shorter gearing may be nice in the twisties. Oftentimes, especially when I'm first learning a road, I feel as though first gear is too sluggish, but second feels too high for comfort (with roads I know well, I have the same problem with second and third gears). With that in mind, lowering all the gears, by increasing the rear by a tooth, should help. Hrm. Anyone have any thoughts?

woohoo!
I learned an interesting tidbit of information while sipping coffee in the workplace kitchen this morning -- apparently, Danger has given us Martin Luther King, Jr. day off. Also apparently, MLK day is Monday. How exciting! Fortunately, the weather report for Monday is 60ish and partly cloudy -- sounds like a good day to ride around or wrench in the garage. *happysigh*

I don't have much more to report. I'm going to try and get a concise write-up of the Superhawk fuel system mods done this weekend; I'll let y'all know when that's posted. :)
